mug cozy tutorial

this year for christmas im trying to make all of the gifts for the adults and their kids in our family.  meaning both of my bothers, their wives and kids, and grandparents.  we don't really have a lot of money to spend on everyone else but i still want to give them something nice.

here's a tutorial for one of the items that im making everyone (except for the two littlest kids)  it's a mug cozy i saw this on thumbleanna  she didn't really give a tutorial on how it all goes together, so i decided to make one myself.  i hope you enjoy my spin on it, check out thimbleanna she has LOTS of great things on her blog to make! :)

first start off with a 9.5 inch long and 3 inch wide piece of fabric
i made mine this width so i wouldn't be getting a mouth full of fabric each time i would sip from the cup.  feel free to customize it to your measurement of your favorite mug.

cut a backing and batting and make your quilting sandwich and quilt.
cut 5 inchs of the elastic fold it in half and place on one side of the 3 inch edge and pin.  stich these to the edge securely.
add our binding over the elastic, and fold over the elastic and stitch over so they stick out and will be easy to grab when putting it on your mug.   continue binding the rest.
add buttons to the opposite side and i noticed on thimbleanna's mug cozy she added hers to the top and bottom.  while i added mine closer to the center.  im not sure it makes a difference.  but i liked them closer. lol

now attach to your mug and enjoy! :)

this is a mug cozy that i made for my older brother.  i made his out if some vintage wool, from a coat and linen with vintage metal buttons.  im pairing each with a matching mug rug to put in their stockings :)  merry christmas!

halloween/fall inky impressions challenge

yay! it's time for another Inky Impressions challenge! :) this week it is halloween or fall. i LOVE halloween so i chose that :) here's this weeks card

it turned out soo cute!  i really love the stamp "Nickie.. the sweet witch"  i used papers from hobby lobbys paper studio, and made a little pocket on the front that i watercolored with tim holtz distress markers, inside  the pocket is a halloween greetings cut out from 7 gypsy's and a trrain ticket for a corpse and a photo negative of a guy holding a  gun..... spooky! :)

here's a close up of the pocket and some of the details.  the orange hearts were pink and i painted them orange with some gloss acrylic paint.  the witch was on sheet of paper that i fussy cut.  i really like the way the watercolor turned out :)

here's a close up of the stamped image, i paper pieced the dress with black and green papers from same papers as the background.

thanks for checking out my project! i would like to enter this into the following challenges :)

inky challenge- anything but a card

this week challenge on the Inky Impressions challenge blog is anything but a card.  i used one of their super cute robin hood Christopher and made a little origami box to set him on.

i used very sparkly paper by my minds eye to make the box, trimmed it with lace, made a wire heart that i backed with more my minds eye paper punched the edge of the box with a martha stewart punch around the page set, and added trims, flowers and buttons.  it's really easy and quick project that i found on youtube the original lady that demonstrates how to make it is sassyscraper and here is a link to her tutorial.  :)

thanks for stopping by!

i would like to enter this project in the following challenges.

The Official Magnolia Inspiration Challenge (TOMIC) last challenge :(

i was checking my blog list today, and i noticed that The Official Magnolia Inspiration Challenge (TOMIC) is having its last challenge! awe.....  :(  so, i just had to join in to say good bye.  i love halloween and there last challenge is halloween themed, Halloween + bat + purple/orange/black to be exact.   so here's what i came up with...

it was hard to get a great picture, because of the 5 o'clock sunlight,  so the purple tilda devil dress and the witch dress both look grey.   but i'll take a better picture tomarrow.  i was just so excited to get this up. :)

here's a close up of the two.  i don't have the magnolia pumpkin stamp, so i looked online for free pumpkin clip art, and printed it out on orange paper.  the background  was colored with my tim holtz distress markers half orange/yellow and have green/brown and the i put a half circle mask over orange/yellow section and used my black soot to ink it all in to look like the moon background of magnolias.  i like the way it turned out.  :)

behind the two tildas i made a little pocket and inserted this little tag, the paper is from 7 gypsy's.  i love this paper soooooooo much!

and here's a detail of the layers that i added.  i like this.

thanks for stopping by, and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!

im entering this card into the last official magnolia challenge blog challenge.

autumn colors challenge

this weeks challenge is an autumn colors challenge!  i love fall!!!!  it finally starts cooling down well just a little here in florida :),  halloween gets closer, apple cider, fall festivals, the county fair, treat or treating!!! :)  i LOVE fall!  lol,  i could not wait to get this card made, and  here's the card that i created for this challenge.  :)

i used lili playing in the leaves  and used a falling leaf stamp that i got at a.c moores in the clearance aisle that i colored with my tim holtz distress markers.  i also used a edging that i snagged from an old table linen.  the button hole was just the most perfect home-y feel for this card.

i really enjoyed making this card, and would like to enter it into the following challenges.

cupcake fairy

hey everyone!  i promised that i would share photos of my little girls Halloween costume when i got it finished.  she saw what she wanted to be when we at marshalls it was a cupcake fairy!  the costum was soooooo cute, but it was kinda expensive for a costume... $30.  so i told her that i could make her one, and i decided to try to make it for free with things that we had around the house (and to be totally honest we have more than enough around the house lol).   here's what she's going to look like for halloween!

she's pretty darn cute without the costume,  but in it how proud she feels makes her even cuter!!!!    i made her an apron with lots of ruffles out of a vintage pillowcase with blue roses, (blue is her favorite color)  and made her a headband with a felt cupcake and a wand again with a matching cupcake.  the little cherry on top is a holly berry from a christmas spray.  she's so cute!   :)

i hope you all like this costume thanks for stopping bye!

lets hear it for the boys!

hey everyone! this card that ive made today is for the inky impressions challenge "let's hear it for the boys!"  here's what i came up with this week

it's a  cute little cute stamp called Nicolas' big splash, and down here in florida it is still nice and warm, and perfect weather for swimming.  to color the llittle guy i used my copics and paper pieced his shorts.  i used lot's of scraps cut down into small stirps to make the background.  and used some webster's pages for the embellishments.

i hope you enjoy this weeks card!  and are having fun getting ready for halloween!  im making my kids costumes and will post some picks of what they look like when im finished!

thanks for stopping by!
